RECENT CHANGES TO U.S. IMMIGRATION POLICIES:

In early 2025, the U.S. government introduced significant immigration policy changes that may affect many individuals and families. It's essential to understand these developments to navigate the evolving landscape effectively.

Federal Agencies Involved

Institution Function
Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
Focuses on domestic security and immigration enforcement. Oversees:
• Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),
• Customs and Border Protection (CBP),
• the Transportation Security Administration (TSA),
• the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA),
• U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS),
• the U.S. Secret Service,
Plays a key role in surveillance, immigration enforcement, and national security operations.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforces immigration laws, conducts deportations, and investigates transnational crimes. It operates through Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) for arrests and deportations and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for criminal investigations.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Manages the process of granting visas, green cards, and U.S. citizenship, handling applications for immigration benefits and overseeing naturalization procedures.
State Department
Focuses on foreign policy and diplomacy Responsible for managing American foreign policy and international relations. It oversees diplomacy, negotiates treaties, issues passports and visas, and represents the U.S. at the United Nations and other international organizations.
Secretary of State
Currently: Marco Rubio Has the authority to revoke visas, with ICE enforcing revocations.
